So... What is the SFITS?
The surgical training, research, and innovation center of excellence
Controlled and secured environment
The SFITS offers the right setting for dry- and wet-labs, to practice in the same conditions as in the OR, at no patient risk.
- Fully equipped surgical and interventional infrastructure
- Modern biomedical equipment, such as laparoscopic and arthroscopic towers, surgical tables, surgical microscopes, navigation system, surgical lights, suctions, and tables (incl. carbon-fiber parts)…
- Advanced imaging systems with radioprotection: 2D C-Arms, Artis Zeego robotic Arm
- Custom-made Audio-Visual routing system, to organize live transmission sessions between SFITS wetlabs and Auditorium, or to connect external OR theaters
- Surgical instrumentation kits, drills and high-speed drills, optics, headholders

At no patient risk
To limit risks on patients and to increase the quality of patient care, participants practice on a wide range of pedagogical material, from synthetic models to anatomical specimens.
- E-learning modules: Theoretical courses, knowledge refreshment and self-evaluation before a practical workshop
- Simulators: Surgical simulators to master skills on very realistic cases
- Virtual and Augmented Reality: Lenses and software to comprehend and integrate step-wise approaches
- Synthetic models: Artificial and ultra-realistic anatomical bodies, made of plastic, silicon or latex
- Organic models: Animal parts and organic models are used to simulate realistic cases, before performing on patients. The animal parts used at the SFITS are NOT sacrificed for training or research purposes
- Anatomical specimens: part of the Swiss body donation program. Under the supervision of the Faculty of Medicine of Geneva and with the collaboration of the Swiss anatomical Institutes
Ethical management and strict codes of conduct
The SFITS ensures that pedagogical material are treated with dignity and respect, and that professional and ethical behavior is displayed at all times.
- Anatomical specimens provided by the SFITS are obtained with the lawful and valid informed consent of their donors, within the Swiss body donation program.
- We ensure the collection of anatomical specimens complies with all applicable laws and in accordance with the informed consent given by the donor and/or the donor’s legally authorized representative.
We would like to sincerely thank all the people that consented and will consent to give their body to science. This ultimate gift allows us to offer continuous medical education to operating room professionals. With the Swiss body donation program, we are able to advance surgical and interventional medicine and patient care, day by day.
- People stepping in the SFITS are responsible for their own safety, the safety of others and the integrity and respect of the anatomical specimens. They consent to strictly follow the medical code of conduct and to display a professional and ethical behavior towards inert material at all times. For example (but not limited to), no photos or videos shall be taken with specimens; specimen’s anonymity must be preserved at all times.

Original audio-visual services
The SFITS teams assists you in creating, developing, editing, and publishing your online resources.
- Hybrid events: event that combines the components of a TV-broadcast for in-person audience and a social and interactive live stream event for remote participants. Animation of online event, theoretical presentations, group discussions, Q&A, virtual break-out room sessions (online platform)
- Live stream services: intervention on patient in any fully equipped OR theater (HUG or external) or anatomical dissections from one of our wetlabs
- Video recording services: in the HUG OR theater on a patient (upfront patient consent mandatory), or with built-in cameras (such as microscopes, surgical lights, endoscopes, navigation) or through 2D/3D Imaging equipment or any compatible biomedical equipment
- Video editing services: Storyboard, voice-over, technical captions
- Anatomical illustrations: Original anatomical drawings, illustrations and animations
Luminous rooms
Whether hot or cold, sandwich or buffet, on-the-go or seated, we gladly prepare any catering services for coffee breaks, lunches and cocktails.
- Our lounge is a spacious, comfortable and luminous area for breaks, lunches and networking activities. It is usually accessible from Monday to Friday 8AM to 6PM (time extension can be granted).
- Please note that the lounge is the only place in the SFITS where food and beverage are allowed. Alcohol is allowed after 6PM. We recommend a maximum of 60 people in the lounge, for security and comfort reasons.

Lounge
The lounge is the main entry point to our center. It is a spacious, comfortable and luminous area for coffee and lunch breaks as well as networking activities. The SFITS offers an excellent coffee from Maison Trottet.

R-Lab
Our R-Lab is a mobile wetlab room with two stations, OR tables, 3D screens. The room is connected to the center’s video routing system, to organize live transmission sessions from other SFITS wetlabs or external OR theaters.

S-Lab
Our Simulation Lab (or S-Lab) is dedicated to surgical simulators, such as Virtamed, Simbionix, Medability, MICE…
Learners can practice techniques on very realistic simulation cases, going through complications and complex situations that could occur during real interventions.
The simulators are accessible anytime on regular business hours. It is highly recommended to call the reception before coming to train on simulators, to ensure the room is available. For more information or room booking, please contact inscription@sfits.ch

Studio
Our recording studio is fully equipped to record and edit videos.
Practical courses can also be performed throughout our center, via our high-performance audiovisual system. Videos can then be edited in our studio.
B-Lab
Our B-Lab is a conference room equipped with a large screen, tables and chairs. It welcomes up to 8 people.

Auditorium
Our modern auditorium offers the best comfort for theoretical courses, seminars and conferences, for up to 50 people. It is equipped with a 4K 3D video-projector and a video conferencing system for live transmission from the SFITS wetlabs or external OR theaters.
The front wall is a glass wall that can either be closed with curtains, or be open to the hybrid room (H-Lab); the audience may follow live practical courses and demos while sitting comfortably, protected from radiation.

H-Lab
Our hybrid room (H-Lab) is equipped with a robotic arm for advanced 3D imaging (with a Technician and radioprotection), a carbone-fiber surgical table, a large screen, a navigation system (with instruments and software) and a mobile surgical microscope.
It can be used as a stand-alone wetlab or as a demo theater for an audience sitting in the Auditorium.

WetLab
Our WetLab offers the greatest comfort for WET or DRY practical courses. It has 10 operating stations, each equipped with laparoscopic or arthroscopic towers, 3D screens, surgical microscope, and operating and instrumentation tables.
Faculty can demonstrate their techniques to the whole lab on two big 3D 4K screens.
The WetLab can be separated with a glass window wall in two independent rooms with 5 stations on each side. Up to 2 2D imaging systems (C-Arms) can be used on each side.

Conference room
Our Conference room is fully equiped and welcomes up to 15 people for meetings. It can be used in theatrical or horseshoe style.

Audiovisual system
Our entire facility is connected with a high-performance audiovisual routing system, for live transmission or for course recording. The control room provides a centralized environment to command and manage the audiovisual routing system and all video and sound signals.
For security reasons, this room has restricted access.
