On February 10 and 11, 2023, was hosted for the 2nd time the Fundamentals of Ophthalmic Microsurgery Course. Led by Prof. Dr. med Gabriele Thumann and Prof. Dr. James Schutz, this 2-day course offered a deep-dive in ophtalmic microsurgery, through theoretical seminars and practical workshops.
The course objective was to provide ophthalmic surgeons with knowledge of the anatomic and physicologic bases of cataract surgery, pre-op preparation and positioning of patients for intraocular surgery. Participants were able to practice the aseptic technique in ophthalmic microsurgery, and to also handle 10-0 nylon suture. The 2nd day gave them the opportunity to learn about the strategy and tactics of phacoemulsification surgery, phaco complications and anterior vitrectomy. Each practical exercise was guided by experienced surgeons, each participant can enrich their knowledge and skills on a fully equipped dedicated station.
We would like to thank the faculty for their time and their valuable feedback, and the participants for their interest in learning and in practicing.
