2022 Temporal Bone Beginner Course

Geneva, Switzerland

From the 24-25 February 2022, we organized the very first edition of the Temporal Bone Beginner Course, directed by Prof. Pascal Senn. We welcomed 12 participants, 8 faculties and 4 sponsors during two intensive days.

This course was built to answer young ENT surgeons’ needs in temporal bone surgery:

  • Temporal bone anatomy
  • Basic surgical techniques in otology
  • Basics on simulation-based ear surgery training

Course program

Before joining the course, the participants went through the theory via an interactive e-learning module, that was conceived in collaboration with the faculty and the SFITS A/V Team.

On Day 1, participants begun with a simulation-based training on virtual and 3D-printed temporal bone models. On Day 2, they had the opportunity to practice a temporal bone surgery on atomical specimens. During both days, Prof Senn and the faculty gave personal feedback, instructions and guidance on techniques.

A participant commented on the course’s evaluation survey: “L’un des meilleurs aspects de ce cours a été la gradation logique 1. Virtuel, 2. Modèle, 3. Cadavre.”

We would like to thank the participants for their enthousiasm, the faculty for their time and passion, and the sponsors for their support.

A new edition in 2023 is being organized. If you have any questions, please send us an e-mail to
